Youth Activities

Leo Club

The club currently sponsors one Leo Club located at Hayfield High School. The Hayfield High School Leo Club has been in existence since 1991. The club's community activities include providing toys, food, and toiletries for the Mondlock House homeless shelter; collecting towels for local animal shelters; participating in the school's STAR tutoring program; and collecting aluminum can pop-tabs for chemotherapy treatment. The club also sells pizza after school to raise funds to support their activities.

International Youth Exchange

The Annual Lions' International Youth Exchange program sponsored by the Montgomery Alabama Lions Club, brings students from other countries into the United States for a seven week period. The youths visit various cities in Virginia, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia and Florida. While in the Washington DC area, they are housed by club members and other host families. During this time they are provided a taste of "Americana" featuring a picnic, softball and volleyball games and a tour of Washington D.C. highlights. View Pictures

Johnson Memorial Scholarship

Each year the club provides two $1000 scholarships to seniors at West Springfield High School in honor of Leonard and Eleanor Johnson. Leonard Johnson was a distinguished member of the club and Eleanor was active in many community activities. The scholarships are awarded based on service to the community and academic excellence.

Boys State and Girls State

Each year the club sponsors one local boy and girl to attend Virginia Boys State and Girls State conventions. These conventions provide an opportunity for youth to obtain an understanding of government processes and learn how to be better citizens.

District Activities

The club also supports district activities including:
1) The annual Peace Poster Contest that was created to give young people the opportunity to think about world peace and express what it means to them; and
2) The Northern Virginia Lions Youth Camp which is a free camping facility available to any youth group accompanied by adult leaders and supervisors.
