Fairfax County Park Clean Up

Club members turned out on Saturday, 9 April to support the annual Fairfax County Park clean up event. The club supported clean up activities at two local parks: Hidden Pond Nature Center and Four Mile Run as part of the Lions committment to help the environment.

NOVA Wellness Health Fair

Club members supported the 2nd Annual Spring & Wellness Health Fair on 7 April sponsored by NOVA Medical Education Campus. The Lions provided the District Sight and Hearing Van and conducted free vision, hearing and glaucoma testing to students and personnel at the Health Fair. Referred to a doctor for follow-up were 11 people for vision, 1 for hearing and 4 for additional glaucoma testing.

Bland Music Competition

The club held it's annual Bland Music Competition on Saturday, 19 February at Krikwood Presbyterian Church from 2:00-4:00. Their were four vocal contestants. The first place winner also won at the District 24-A Region Competition and will represent the district at the State Convention in May 2011.

Toys for Local Charities

Club members donated toys for local charities at the annual club Holiday Party on Tuesday, 14 Dec. The toys were donated to two local charities, Echo and Koinonia, for distribution to families in need.

Health Fair

The club sponsored it's 2nd Annual Health Fair at Springfield Mall on Saturday, 13 Nov from 10:00-6:00. Free sight and hearing screening were provided by members of the Lions Club and the Hayfield High School Leo Club. Other community health providers were on site to provide information and do free screenings. Over 50 diabetes tests and 132 blood pressure checks were performed, in addition to 53 vision and hearing screenings. Many participants were referred to their doctor for high blood pressure or vision problems. It was an extremely successful event and we look forward to next year.

Flea Markets

The club concluded a very successful 2010 Flea Market season on Sat, 20 Nov. Thanks to all the vendors and customers that made this season a success. ALL proceeds from the Flea Markets go back into the community to help serve those in need.

New Steps for Garfield Elementary

As part of the club's partnership with Garfield Elementary School, club members and supporters got together on Saturday, 2 Oct, to build steps from the upper parking area down to the school. These steps help address a dangerous situation posed by the steep hillside, especially during wet conditions. The steps were in use the next school week and provide a safer and dryer path for visitors to the school.

Lee District Nights

The club sponsored the Lee District Nights concert at Lee District Park Amphitheater on Wed, 28 Jul. Club representatives passed out concert and club flyers, as well as provided cookies to the attendees.

International Youth Exchange

The club participated in the 44th Annual William C. Chandler Lions International Youth Camp sponsored by the Montgomery Lions Club in Montgomery, Alabama. While in the DC area from 7-12 Jul, the club hosted 25 international youth, young men ages 17 to 21, with tours of DC and various Lions Club-sponsored events. This event was once again a tremendous success, enjoyed by all.
